Mayer Hawthorne

Finally got the chance to check out Mayer Hawthorne this weekend after a long, long wait. He has been floating around for a few months now, ever since the releaseof the beautiful ‘Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out’. Might be my song of the year so far.

He played a show at the Natural History Museum on Friday night. Apparently, those parties are the newer, better version of the First Friday program at the Guggenheim which started so well but has kind of descended into cat walk hell. Mayer sang a couple of tracks alongside stable mates from the awesome Stones Throw label, run by Peanut Butter Wolf.

On Saturday he was at Le Poisson Rouge, which seems to have a great knack for throwing together stellar line-ups. It was a Stone’s Throw party and there was a good crowd in attendance. It was great to see Mayer perform live - there is something powerful about his voice which just carries through you even more intensely when you are seeing him live. He is right at the start of his career, so only had a few tracks, but I am excited to see what happens next for him.

I am expecting big things.
