Poptech started today up in Maine and it looks like a pretty stellar line up. Nicholas, Ken and I had a slot today and another on Saturday morning to talk about ‘What we are saying’, the semantic analysis project that we have been working on over the last few months. It was a big project and its we are really proud to have the chance to present the work at Poptech.
The aim of ‘What we are saying’ was to try and figure out what Americans think about a bunch of prevalent issues that impact their lives, without actually asking them. If you ask someone for their viewpoint on a topic, their answer will typically be skewed in someway; maybe by who the audience is or how the question is asked. In today’s world of online social media, its much easier to just listen to what people think without actually having to ask them. So thats what we did.

I believe this type of processing of social media conversation is going to become a really powerful new trend in understanding customers and users across every spectrum. We are hoping this project might get a few people thinking…
