The End of The End
This past weekend saw the closing of a London nightlife institution, The End. After 13 years of hosting incredible parties, London is losing another of the clubs that helped to establish it as one of the homes of electronic music (both The Cross and The Key closed a year ago to make way for the new Eurostar terminal at St Pancras).
The final party fittingly featured DJs that have been with The End across the years, Mr C, Erol Alkan and the one and only Laurent Garnier. I was sad to miss it, but I have been enough times over the years to have a lifetime of great memories about being there. Friends who were there queued 5 hours to get in (finally getting through the door at 5am) and were still going strong at 1pm on Sunday. Just in time for lunch.
The scene in London is changing for sure - the continued dominance of Fabric in Spitalfields and their new venture, Matter out east is intensifying focus on high profile DJs and huge crowds.
But at the same time the undergrond scene ensures that London is always a place where you can see great electronic music, played by first rate DJs, in whatever type of venue you want.
The End produced a great video chronically the past 13 years and the closing party. You can check it out here.
