How’s your news?

Sunday saw the second episode in a 6-part show called ‘How’s My News’, airing on MTV. What a great project, I am so pleased that it made it to air. The show features 5 roving reporters, all of whom met at a summer camp for adults with disabilities. We follow them on a road trip across the country, celeb-interviewing as they go.
The project was part-funded by the South Park guys, but as I understand it they have been pretty hands off in the production of the show itself. And what a smart decision that turned out to be. HYN is a really engaging, well-presented show.
More than anything else, it makes me really happy that avant-garde channels like MTV are still prepared to be pushing boundaries, as they have been for many years. Say what you like about it, this is a tough show to put together and air, and MTV have not shyed away.
The real success of the show is that the agenda is set by the team - no exploitation, no underlying message, just a group of intrepid reporters doing the interviews they want to do. As Tom Shales in the Post said “They are in on the joke; they are telling the joke; they are part of the greater joke being played on us all”.
If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend checking it out this week.
