Sneaky Sound System
Surprising trip back to Highline Ballroom on Saturday night to check out the Sneaky Sound System. Sneaky are an Australian dance act that have been around since 2001 but have totally escaped my notice until now (or at least until I recognized some of the stuff they played).
Who knew that the Highline got converted into a tragic, table-service nightclub on Saturday nights, but there you have it. Had it not been filled with hammered Australians hellbent on having a great time, it might have been a disaster.
As it was, the band were fantastic. The whole group plays with so much energy and excitement, its impossible not to love what they do. Kind of reminded me of LCD System. And I was just blown away by the vocal power of leadsinger Connie Mitchell, who sounds like Bjork with soul. Turns out she worked with Kanye West on Graduation, and I am hoping to hear a lot more from her in the future.
Between her and Sia, Australia seems to have the edge when it comes to female vocalists. In the golden age of Kate Perry, Kate Nash and Duffy its interesting these ladies are not getting more attention shone on them.
