Hit 20 shows for the year with Bishop Allen on Saturday night, and it was really one of the best. In my mind, Bishop Allen have all the songs and swagger of Vampire Weekend, but for some reason a fraction of the recognition. They played a great set to a mostly full MHOW that did a nice job of demonstrating the energy that they embody.
It was great to hear Rain and Click, Click, Click, Click - two of my favorite tracks, but there were plenty of other stand-outs for me.
The best was discovering the delicious aural ice cream that is Darbie Nowatka. At first she unassumingly banged away on the xylephone off to the side of stage, but she came front and center mid-way through to perform three songs, all of which sent a crazy shiver through my body. Really, you just want to hug the girl and then offer her a warm cup of tea.
Bishop Allen deserve more. I’ll keep talking about them until they get it.
