Continuing on a theme of great music video creative, I have been enjoying the latest Whitest Boy Alive video over the weekend, for their summer stirrer Golden Cage.
Similar to the UNKLE video I reviewed last month, this video starts with a skateboarding theme, before descending into animated story-making richness.
The pencilmanship is the work of Geoff McFetridge, an awesome animator who did some amazing work with the Beastie Boys as Art Director of their Grand Royal magazine in the 90s. (If you want to see more of Geoff’s work you can check out his exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum, or check out his shakeboard shop/company Solitary Arts.)
Aside from the obvious quality, I love the layered story that these images put together for the viewer. Hoping we are going to see lots more imagination in the music video world in the coming months - just another way that the music industry needs to keep moving forward to keep up with the world.
