Back to the early 90s for cover Friday today. The Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses pretty much dominated northern England for 5 years, and stories of the outrageous antics of Shaun Ryder are still legendary today.

The Happy Monday’s cover of John Kongos’s He’s Gonna Step On You Again was pure inspiration. God knows how they chose the track, or how they managed to change around the structure, the lyrics and the style to produce what is still a defining track. But they did.

Bonnaroo was everything I was hoping for and more. Stellar shows from the Kings of Leon and Stevie Wonder, and one of the greatest live spectacles I have seen when the Flaming Lips performed the Dark Side of the Moon from start to finish.

So many balloons and so much color, the Flaming Lips define what an interactive live music experience can really be. You can see footage of the show here.

If I was going to cover any song, this would be it. Amazing song by the White Stripes, covered in great style by Jack Johnson.

Can’t wait to see Jack White in a field in Tennessee tomorrow night.

Headed to Tennessee this weekend for Bonnaroo, first time and cannot wait.

Lots of amazing artists to see (Black Keys, Stevie Wonder, The National, Phoenix, LCD Soundsystem, Flaming Lips, Kings of Leon, Jay-Z, Dead Weather, etc) but I most looking forward to seeing the musical deity that is Jimmy Cliff.

He is playing at sunset on Saturday and its going to be magic.

One of my all-time favorite covers this week. I saw Vampire Weekend 2 years ago at Webster Hall, and they ran out of tracks after 45mins, having played through the whole of the first album.

The decided to take on a couple of covers for the encore, including this classic take on Fleetwood Mac.
