The girl with maybe the best real name in music, Scout Niblett, on the week’s cover Friday.
Lovely soulful cover of Althea & Donna’s 1977 reggae classic, Uptown Top Ranking.
“Nah pop no style, a strictly roots”
a useful place to jot down thoughts and remind myself what i spend time thinking about and doing, especially when i forget at the end of each month.

I Need a Dollar (Bakija remix)
Aloe Blacc and Wu Tang
Massive mash-up from Germany this week, featuring Wu-Tang lyrics juxtaposed over the sick vocals and lyrics of Aloe Blacc’s massive track “I Need a Dollar”.
Not sure who Bakija is, but I assume they are responsible, so nice work.

Hot new band from Manchester this afternoon, destined for huge things next year. WU LYF - World Unite, Lucifer Youth Foundation - is just a ridiculous name, but their sound is anything but.
In one way, the sound to me like they tie together several major musical strands of the last couple of years - Bon Iver, Gayngs, MIA. In another way, its totally fresh.
Their first EP, issued in a comical limited release of 14 and sold at $75 a pop, has come and gone, and now we wait for what comes next.

Didn’t feel to bad about missing the MMJ show last night, until I saw that they played this to close their show.
Massive track.

Missed seeing My Morning Jacket this week after an unexpected Wednesday evening, but they covered the Rolling Stones on Tuesday at T5 and it sounded great.
Will have to settle for Massive Attack tonight instead.
